The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) director general, Brig.-Gen. Olalekan Nafiu, has assured corps members of the implementation of the new N77,000 monthly allowance in March 2025.

“With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of seventy-seven thousand naira as your monthly allowance,” NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu quoted Mr Nafiu.

“The NYSC is good at record-keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the scheme appreciate you.”

Ms Embu said the DG made the announcement on Thursday while addressing corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC zonal offices in Abuja.

The increase in the monthly wages of corp members comes several months after the NYSC announced a proposed increment from N33,000 to N77,000, shortly after President Bola Tinubu signed the N70 minimum wage into law in July 2024.

While emphasising that the well-being of corpers remained a top priority, Mr Nafiu urged them “to remain calm, dedicated, focused and disciplined in their service to the nation.”

He further stressed that the NYSC is a valuable scheme that fosters national unity by building bridges among young graduates and exposing them to the cultural values of regions beyond their places of birth.

The NYSC boss additionally assured corp members that the management would continue to instil values such as patriotism, discipline, self-restraint, good morals, leadership qualities, and teamwork in successive batches of the scheme.
