Africa’s football governing body, CAF, has ordered its audit and governance committee to carry out an investigation into the allegations of corruption in the association’s internal governance and auditing regulations within the CAF Secretariat.

In a statement released by CAF on Thursday, the organisation said one of the most respected international law firms or an internationally respected audit and professional services firm will be appointed to look into the auditing regulations.

The CAF audit and governance committee consists of the chairman and vice chairman of the CAF Governance Committee, Justice Petrus Damaseb, and Happi Dieudoné, respectively

Also there are the chairman and vice chairman of the CAF audit and compliance committee Mohammed Zaazi and Mouhamed Nour-Dine Assindoh, respectively and Mr Damaseb, who is the chair of the CAF audit and governance committee.

CAF noted that following completion of the investigation, a report will thereafter be submitted to the CAF Executive Committee (”EXCO”).

Speaking on the development, CAF president Patrice Motsepe said: “There is zero tolerance in CAF for corruption or breaching CAF’s internal governance, audit and transparency regulations or for violating CAF and FIFA Statutes and Regulations.”

“We have committed CAF to adhering to global governance, audit, transparency and ethics best practices and established in 2021, an Internal Governance and Compliance Department in CAF,” he added.

“This Internal Governance and Compliance Department brought the alleged breach of CAF’s internal Audit and Governance Regulations to our attention.”
