A magistrate court in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Monday, ordered the remand of a 70-year-old woman, Fatimoh Orelope and five other persons for allegedly assaulting a traditional chief.

The other five defendants are: Babalola Motunrayo (35), Suliman Ganiyu (47), Kehinde Ojeyemi (40), Olutoye Taofeeq (35) and Olutoye Wasiu Kayode (40).

The prosecutor, Elisha Olusegun said the defendants committed the crime, on the 15th January 2023 around 10:00am at Obaagun area in Osun State.

Olusegun told the court that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit: assault, robbery and violence threat.

He stated that the defendants unlawfully assaulted Chief Dauda Ajadosu attacking him with sticks, fist blows and slaps.

The Prosecutor further said that the defendants unlawfully robbed Chief Dauda Ajadosu of his staff of office and destroyed his traditional beads, adding that they armed themselves with weapons and threatened to kill Chief Dauda Ajadosu.

According to the prosecutor, the offense is contrary to and punishable under Section 516, 351, 402, 86 and 451 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the five count charges of felony, unlawful assault, threat to life, unlawful theft and destruction of belongings slammed against them.

Counsel to the defendant, A. S Olaniyi, pleaded that the court grant his client bail in the most liberal and affordable terms.

The prosecutor, objected to the bail  saying count 3 on the charge sheet is an offence that warranty 21 years imprisonment, which is a capital offence; also count 4 is also a capital offence, thereby urging the court not to admit the defendants to bail, not to allow same crimes be committed.

The presiding Magistrate, Olusegun Ayilara, thereafter ordered the remand of the defendants at the correctional center.

The case was adjourned to February 15, 2023.
