Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested some suspected kidnappers and recovered ₦3 million in ransom money from them.

In a post on X on Saturday, the spokesperson for the command, Bright Edafe, said the suspects, during interrogation, stated that the recovered money was what remained from the ₦4 million ransom collected for the release of a woman they had kidnapped in Agbarho.

Mr Edafe said, “During stop and search, operatives of Dragon Patrol intercepted a commercial vehicle. During the search, cash of three million naira was recovered.

“Upon interrogation and investigation, the suspects confessed that the money was part of the ransom money collected from a girl they kidnapped in Agbarho. They even used a wooden gun to carry out the kidnap,” he stated.

Speaking further in a video attached to the post, Mr Edafe stated that the suspects had already shared the ransom among themselves before they were intercepted.

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said the suspects, “came into my compound, they injured me on my forehead with one long rope that they use to flog cows. They identified as Fulanis that escort cows. One of them said he used to be a Boko Haram member.”

The victim, during the parade of eight suspects, identified four of them as those who abducted her, adding that she spent three nights in their captivity before being released after the ransom was paid.

Two of the suspects said they came from Taraba State, another said he came from Yobe, while another claimed to be from Kano.

Stating that the police cannot do anything without information, Mr Edafe pleaded with residents to trust them by reporting criminals terrorising their communities to the command.

“Trust us, because the earlier we arrest some of these criminal elements who are terrorising us, kidnap and collect money, making life difficult for people who are living a meaningful life legally, the better,” he said.
