A cleric, Dare Thomas of Christ Life Church, has cautioned teenagers against losing their pride and dignity during Valentine’s Day celebrations.

Mr Thomas gave the advice in Ilorin on Friday during an interview.

He warned that many girls risk undermining their self-esteem during the celebrations.

He said, “February 14 is not for fornication as believed by most youths. Stop exchanging your bodies for Valentine gifts. As a young girl or boy, stop presenting yourself cheaply for snacks, ice cream and material gifts.”

Mr Thomas stressed that Valentine’s Day symbolises love and not immorality.

He stated, “Valentine is known as a day of love, not a day for fornication. You can share gifts and celebrate without committing any immoral act. Do not lose your pride, dignity and value during Valentine’s celebrations in ways you may later regret.”

He urged young people to celebrate modestly and avoid abusing the occasion.

Mr Thomas also advised parents to counsel their children and closely monitor teenagers’ movements on Valentine’s Day.
