NAIROBI

President Felix Tshisekedi said Tuesday that the Democratic Republic of Congo has “many opportunities” to offer Israeli businesses, including in mining, infrastructure, energy, agriculture and education, as he received Israeli President Isaac Herzog for talks.

“We discussed all of this, and I can tell you with satisfaction, moreover, that things are going very, very, very well,” Tshisekedi told a news conference after a one-on-one meeting with the Israeli head of state in Kinshasa.

Herzog’s first-ever visit to Central Africa and Congo aims to bolster Israel’s international position and deepen cooperation, while strengthening ties with Tshisekedi across diplomatic, political, security, agricultural, infrastructure and digital sectors, the Congolese presidency said in a statement.

“The evidence is clear, the friendship is deep between the two countries, through projects beneficial for our two countries, and this will be an opportunity to seize,” said Herzog, calling a friendship caucus in the Israeli parliament between the two countries a “great success.”

“There are many opportunities,” he added, noting that “significant” growth is emerging from collaborations across different sectors.

Herzog’s visit came after his inaugural visit Monday to Zambia.
