Following the revelation by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu that Prof Ikonne was recovering from an illness, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, the Accord Party governorship candidate, has prayed to God to extend his healing hands unto Prof Uche Ikonne.

Recall that during a radio interview held on Monday, Governor Ikpeazu was quoted to have said that Prof Ikonne had left the hospital where he was receiving treatment. This stark revelation sparked off reactions from Abians. In Bishop Emeka Nwankpa’s words, ‘Anybody can fall sick at any time. We should not play politics with the health of our fellow humans, even if they are our political opponents. As a child of God, all I can do is to pray for his healing. That is part of my job as a minister of the gospel.’

Bishop Emeka Nwankpa praised Governor Ikpeazu for being courageous enough to tell Abians the truth about the state of health of the professor of optometry, and also asked the Iknonne family to remain prayerful.

Asked why he is praying for the quick recovery of his major political opponent, the cleric said, ‘I won’t play politics with something as sensitive as health. As a minister of the gospel, I will always pray for the sick, irrespective of who they are, whether they are my opponents or not. I am pursuing my political aspirations devoid of ill feelings against anyone, and I am confident of victory.’
