NEW YORK, New York: New York’s Empire State Building was lit in purple andgold lights on June 3 to honor the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation.
Turning on the lights were British Consul General to New York Emma Wade-Smith, along with British-American DJ, songwriter, and producer Mark Ronson.
“It’s a beacon, much in the same way that the queen is a beacon, someone who embodies so much of what we and the world love about the UK,” Ronson said during the lighting ceremony.
At 96 years old, Queen Elizabeth is celebrating 70 years as head of state.
In the 1,000 years of British royalty, no other monarch has remained on the throne for a longer period.
Princess Elizabeth became queen following the death of her father, King George VI, in 1952.
Queen Elizabeth reigns over more than a dozen countries, including Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
