Leaders of thought from the three senatorial zones of Enugu have reaffirmed their support for the governorship candidate, Peter Mbah.

On Thursday, in a meeting in Enugu, the leaders said they adopted Mbah as their sole candidate from Enugu East senatorial zone in tandem with the established power rotation principle that had seen power go seamlessly around the three zones.

They appealed to residents of Enugu to help the state to maintain the power rotation tradition in the interest of peace and development.

C.A. Ezeh, the chairman of the Enugu North senatorial district council of traditional rulers, recalled that the traditional rulers of the zone came together and presented an ofo (a traditional symbol of authority and justice) to Mr Mbah.

“While the traditional rulers are neutral and also bless candidates, irrespective of their political parties, Mbah was the only governorship candidate we gave the ofo, and that is quite symbolic. We stand by that decision,” Mr Ezeh said.

Ex-Senate president Ken Nnamani said the choice of Mr Mbah resonated with the power rotation principle, justice, and Enugu’s quest for credible and capable leaders.

“First, we agreed that in the interest of the peace, stability and development of Enugu state, we should maintain the power rotation principle. Enugu state people agreed that it is the turn of the Enugu East senatorial zone,” Mr Nnamani explained.

He urged the Enugu electorate to support Mr Mbah’s gubernatorial ambition, stressing that the PDP flag bearer “is an entrepreneur, and his manifesto is very rich.”

Former Governor Sullivan Chime reiterated that the governorship of Enugu should not be based on a political party but on “capacity, competence, character and track record.”

The leaders of thought and political stakeholders that attended the meeting included Deputy Governor Cecilia Ezeilo, former Governor Jim Nwobodo and traditional rulers from the three senatorial zones.
