A former employee at Spirit AeroSystems in Kansas, United States of America has said the company regularly supplied faulty plane parts to Boeing.

Speaking to the BBC and the American network CBS, Santiago Paredes, a former quality inspector at Spirit AeroSystems, which is Boeing’s largest supplier, said the plane bodies usually left the factory with serious defects.

The whistleblower while narrating his experience working at the firm between 2010 and 2022, said he found “anywhere from 50 to 100, 200” defects on fuselages, the main body of the plane, that were already about prepared to be shipped to Boeing.

Mr Paredes, who was nicknamed “showstopper,” for slowing down production when he tried to tackle his concerns said, “I was finding a lot of missing fasteners, a lot of bent parts, sometimes even missing parts.”

Denying any wrongdoing however, a spokesperson for Spirit AeroSystems said the company “strongly disagree[d]” with Mr Paredes’ allegation, as “We are vigorously defending against his claims.”

Boeing declined to comment on the matter.
