The Nigeria Medical Association, Federal Capital Territory (NMA-FCT), has commended its members for their perseverance and urged them to remain steadfast in the face of challenges.

NMA-FCT chairman, Emeka Ayogu, made the appeal at a dinner and awards held on Saturday in Abuja to conclude the chapter’s 2025 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference.

Mr Ayogu noted that members of the association had continued to persevere in spite of disadvantages, particularly regarding their welfare, and encouraged them to sustain their resilience.

“First of all, I want to thank doctors for their perseverance. There are doctors in Nigeria who appear to be very disadvantaged.I have told you before how doctors are treated in this country.

“Our doctors must have hope in God, have faith in God; hope that things are going to get better. Let’s hope that tomorrow there’s hope for us. We must embrace the current situation and keep on praying.

“I think that some day, some time, the government will do things by making sure that the state of things for doctors will get better.

“That’s our prayer, to appeal to doctors to be patient enough.

“I, as NMA-FCT chairman, I am making all effort to see that the welfare of our members are not taken for granted.

“Of course, this I’m doing in collaboration with the national body, with the government, and every other person involved.

“So, I’m fighting, I’m making an effort, and I understand the situation of doctors in Nigeria, especially in our city. FCT, and I’m on top of the situation.

“I pray that one day, they will answer our prayer,” Mr Ayogu stressed.

He, however, commended the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of NMA-FCT for the success of the 2025 AGM, adding that it was a big success as a result of the commitment of the committee, headed by Nnamdi Nd-Ezuma.

The chairman noted that members of the committee played crucial roles and made significant sacrifices in putting the activities together, adding that they truly deserved the awards they received at the event.

Mr Ayogu explained that the awards were essentially a way of saying “thank you” for their unrelenting efforts, stressing that the outing demanded enormous energy, time, and mental input before it became a success story.

“So, we feel that in this session we need to appreciate them by giving them awards, honouring them,so that they can be encouraged,so that next time they can give it again,” he said.
