Thirty students and a teacher of the Federal Government College (FGC), Birnin Yauri, abducted by bandits last year, have regained their freedom, the state government has said.

Yahaya Sarki, an aide to the state governor, Atiku Bagudu, confirmed the development in a statement on Saturday in Birnin Kebbi.

“Today, Saturday 8th January 2022, 30 students of Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, and one teacher have arrived Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State capital, following their release,” Mr Sarki said.

“They shall undergo medical screening and support while being reunited with their families.

“We thank all security agencies and those who have helped in securing the release, while congratulating Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari, for the success,” he added.

Thirty students of the same school were released on October 21, last year, brought to Birnin Kebbi, and reunited with their families.

This is in addition to some who were earlier released to their parents.

Armed bandits on June 17 invaded the school and abducted over 80 students from the school premises.

The marauding gunmen men stormed the school at Birnin Yauri around 12:00 p.m. shooting sporadically.
