First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, have joined millions of well-wishers to celebrate the Super Falcons for winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with a record 10th title.

Nigeria staged a stunning comeback, beating the host, Morocco 3-2 in a tense final in Rabat, Morocco.

However, the first lady who has supported the team with prayers and words of encouragement, congratulated them in Abuja on Sunday for the historic 10th WAFCON Title.

She said the team had once again lifted the pride of the nation and cemented their place as “Queens of African football.”

Mrs Tinubu thanked the Super Falcons on behalf of the Nigerian women and the entire nation.

She said, “You have written your names in gold and inspired millions across the continent. I celebrate you, our beautiful and lovely Super Falcons for the landmark victory of your 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations championship. Your resounding 3-2 victory is indeed remarkable and commendable. It is not just another trophy; it is a testament to your hard work, consistency, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit. We thank God for this sweet victory.”

Also, the women affairs minister described the victory as a “monumental achievement” that reaffirmed Nigeria’s place at the pinnacle of Africa women’s football.

This is contained in a statement on Sunday in Abuja by her Special Adviser on Media & Publicity, Jonathan Eze.

She stated, “This is more than a win on the pitch; it is a powerful symbol of the strength, discipline, and unbreakable spirit of Nigerian women. The Super Falcons have once again proven that when Nigerian women lead, they inspire a nation and shine on the world stage.’’

She further applauded the team’s resilience, teamwork, and grace under pressure, calling their triumph a source of national pride and a beacon of hope for girls across the country.

Ms Sulaiman-Ibrahim also congratulated President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady for their unprecedented support to the team and the entire Nigerian sports ecosystem under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

She stated, “As minister of women affairs, I am immensely proud. Tonight, every Nigerian girl sees a reflection of her dreams in your victory. You have not only lifted a trophy, but you have also lifted hearts.’’

She reiterated the commitment of the ministry towards championing policies and initiatives that support and empower Nigerian women and girls in sports and every sphere of life.
