The police in Katsina say they have killed five bandits, arrested 16 others, recovered 69 rustled cows and drugs.

A spokesman for the police in the state, Gambo Isah, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Katsina.

Mr Isah said the five bandits were killed in a shootout in Kafur, Danja, Dutsinma, Safana, Batsari, and Makera in Funtua.

He added that 15 bandits were arrested during the encounter, while a 25-year-old man, Musa Shamsudin, was nabbed for going into the forest to treat “sick and wounded bandits.”

According to Mr Isah, the police recovered three locally fabricated rifles with 10 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and locally made pellets from the bandits.
