The hybrid car-aircraft which took two minutes, 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft, makes use of a BMW engine and a regular petrol-pump fuel.

Makers of the prototype flying car have successfully completed its first-ever test flight, marking a key technological milestone.

The test flight was taken between the international airports in Nitra and Bratislava in Slovakia, taking off to the skies and landed in 35 minutes, BBC reports.

The hybrid car-aircraft which took two minutes, 15 seconds to transform from car into aircraft, makes use of a BMW engine and a regular petrol-pump fuel.

The maker of the AirCar, Klein Vision, disclosed that its creation has the ability to fly about 1,000km (600 miles), at a height of 8,200ft (2,500m), and has been able to stay 40 hours in the air so far, with a speed of 170km/h while in flight.

It also has the capacity to carry two people, with a combined weight limit of 200kg and requires a runway for its landing while the narrow wings of the AirCar folds down along the sides of the car.

The company added that the flying car completed its 142nd successful landing and the inventor, Professor Stefan Klein, after landing the AirCar, described the ride as “normal” and “very pleasant.”
