Four Somali TikTokers have been arrested by the police for insulting President Hassan Mohamud in a dance video.
The TikTokers were arrested for a dance video made from a presidential election campaign song 2022, now remixed laced with some derogatory words.
In a statement, Somali police said the four TikTokers would be charged to court for prosecution, the BBC reported on Tuesday.
Somali police spokesperson, Gen. Abdifatah Aden, warned that citizens caught disrespecting political leaders would “face the full force of the law.”
The development followed the government clampdown on citizens in Somalia.
In August last year, seven TikTokers were accused of inciting civil unrest and spreading immorality and jailed for six months.
Though social media has not been banned in Somalia, the government in 2023 considered banning it, citing spread of misinformation, threat to national security and moral values.
