Cause of pressure drop is under investigation

MOSCOW

The pressure dropped in both lines of the Nord Stream 1 natural gas pipeline for an undetermined reason, Nord Stream AG said Tuesday.

A statement by Nord Stream AG, the operating company of Nord Stream 1, said the pressure dropped in both lines of the pipeline, the cause of which is now under investigation.

In another statement on Tuesday, Nord Stream AG reported that Nord Stream 2, which is filled with natural gas but not yet operational, also saw a pressure drop.

Denmark’s naval authorities announced the detection of a natural gas leak in the Nord Stream 2, which passes through the country’s territorial waters.

Natural gas deliveries through the Nord Stream 1 pipeline were completely halted on Aug. 31 due to a lack of essential pipeline maintenance.

While Russian officials claim that the problems in natural gas deliveries to Europe are due to sanctions, European officials claim that Russia is using its energy resources as a weapon.
