Gov. Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has inaugurated a youth sanitation programme tagged ZAYOSAP to provide jobs for 1,500 youths.

This is contained in a statement signed by the governor’s senior special assistant on media and publicity, Sulaiman Idris, in Gusau on Saturday.

Mr Idris said that the programme would be responsible for cleaning up the state capital, Gusau, and its environs.

“The governor said that the programme was in line with his administration’s commitment in promoting hygiene and preventing diseases.

“The programme is aimed at creating job opportunities, targeting the teeming unemployed youths in the state.

“Phase one of the sanitation programme will commence with employment of 1,500 youths carefully selected from five wards of the Gusau Local Government Area with 10 coordinators and 65 supervisors,” Mr Idris said.

He added that the governor urged the beneficiaries to be committed to the job.

“This is one of the many programmes of my administration to provide employment opportunities for the youth.

“Apart from job opportunities for the youth, this programme would also help in promoting hygiene and preventing diseases; this is a part and parcel of our urban renewal plan.

“We have reached an agreement with construction firms for construction of new roads in Gusau; they will employ 200 youths who are indigenes of the state.

“This is part of our administration’s mission to add value to the lives of our teeming youths and all citizens of the state,” Mr Idris quoted Mr Lawal as saying.

He added that the programme would be extended to all the remaining local government areas.

He quoted the state coordinator of the programme, Kabiru Danyadado, as praising the governor for fulfilling one of his campaign promises and vowed to carry out his duty diligently.
