Mr Ayeni, in January, defiled his stepdaughter who lived with him and his wife without the minor’s consent, the prosecutor told court.

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court has remanded Joshua Ayeni, 41, at the Agodi Correctional Centre over alleged defilement and impregnation of his 13-year old stepdaughter.

Chief Magistrate Patricia Adetuyibi who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered his remand, pending the advice of the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Ms Adetuyibi adjourned the matter till October 20 for mention.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC ) charged the defendant on two counts of defilement and impregnation.

Prosecution Counsel Olurotimi Afe told the court that Mr Ayeni, in January, defiled his stepdaughter who lived with him and his wife without the minor’s consent.

Mr Afe alleged that the defendant also impregnated the 13-year-old girl.

He said the offence contravened Sections 34 (1) and 35(1) and was punishable under Sections 34 (2) and 35 (2) of the Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.
