On Wednesday, the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun, recorded its first rain of the year, following a downpour in some areas of the town.
The rain, which started around 6:40 p.m. in some areas, lasted between 20 and 30 minutes in Opa and Kosere areas.
Other areas that witnessed rainfall were Ifedapo, Moremi, Iloro, Oke-Atan, Lagere, Mayfair, Campus and some areas of Modakeke, including Urban-day, Better life, Oke-D.O, Itaasin, among others.
However, the rain did not fall in Eleyele, Ibadan Road, Modomo, Igboya, Sabo, Ilare, Road-Seven, Oduduwa and Iremo areas, among others.
The rain, which fell without a storm, was heavy in the affected areas, and there was no report of any destruction of property.
Sade Iyiola, who resides in the Iredumi area of Ile-Ife, described the rainfall as a welcome development and great relief.
“I’m so happy to witness the first rainfall of the year. The weather has not been friendly for some time now. I believe this rain will usher in more favourable weather to all and sundry,” Mr Iyiola said.
The rain served as a signal to farmers to begin clearing their farmlands in preparation for planting crops.
