Traditional rulers in Imo state have been urged not to harbour but report unregistered and unknown migrants in their communities.

The Comptroller of Immigration in Imo, Okey Ezugwu, made the call at a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Imo Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Okeke, at his Palace on Saturday in Owerri.

Mr Ezugwu said because some immigrants come into the country for spurious motives, “Identifying, registering and ascertaining their intentions is important.”

He appealed for maximum cooperation from the traditional rulers to help ensure that reports of foreigners’ presence in the state were brought to his notice.

Mr Ezugwu said the command will always welcome the traditional rulers and “assured them of service deserving of royalty whenever any of them applies for any of NIS services.”

The comptroller noted a need for a change of attitude among the old and young in the state to enable Imo to move forward.

He promised to work with all stakeholders to secure the state, adding that the breakdown of law and order would affect everybody in the state.
