WASHINGTON

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Elon Musk on Thursday in Washington, DC to discuss space, mobility, technology and governance.

“Had a very good meeting with @elonmusk,” Modi wrote on X, highlighting India’s reforms and commitment to “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.”

The talks touched on Musk’s government efficiency initiative, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which critiques federal spending.

Modi also met US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. The two discussed “strengthening defense and security ties,” according to Modi’s office. They also discussed ways to increase cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors and space.

The prime minister praised Waltz as a “great friend” and said there is “strong” potential for cooperation in various areas.

In another meeting, Modi met with newly-confirmed Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. He said he congratulated her on her confirmation Wednesday and discussed aspects of the India-US friendship.

Modi arrived Wednesday in the US ahead of his meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House, becoming the fourth foreign leader to visit Trump since his inauguration last month.

The two leaders are set to meet later Thursday.
