FULL TEXT OF THE REMARKS PRESENTED BY H.E. DR. USRA HENDRA HARAHAP, AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA TO NIGERIA, ON THE OCCASION OF THE HANDOVER CEREMONY OF THE p VACCINES DONATED BY INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT TO NIGERIA

LOCATION: NPHCDA Headquarters, 681/682 Port-Harcourt Crescent, Gimbiya Street, Area 11, Abuja.

PROTOCOL

  1. Engrlufunso O. Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Federal Republic of Nigeria;
  2. Dr. Faisal Shuaibu, Managing Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA);
  3. Representative from WHO, UNICEF and other Agencies;
  4. Director of Research and Business Development, Biofarma, Dra. Yuliana Indriati (manufacturer of the vaccines);
  5. Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen,

Today is a significant occasion as we gather here to witness the handover ceremony of a significant contribution from one country to another. It gives me great pleasure to stand before you today as we mark the donation of Pentavalent vaccines from Indonesia to Nigeria. This act of generosity symbolizes the strong bond between our countries and our shared commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of all our citizens.

I want to use this opportunity to express Indonesia’s sincere appreciation to Nigeria for accepting this grant and for your unwavering commitment to the well-being of your citizens. We can address issues with global health and create a better future for everyone by working together and standing together.

One of the most significant developments in public health is the pentavalent vaccine. In order to guard against diseases including diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, and Hemophilus influenzae type B, it includes five critical vaccines.

The burden of these preventable diseases will be greatly lessened as a result of this thorough immunization, especially among the most vulnerable populations, such as newborns and young children.

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, these Pentavalent vaccines are produced by Indonesian manufacturer PT. Biofarma and delivered to a total of 1,580,000 doses of Penta Valent Vaccines donated by Indonesian Government to Nigeria through the Indonesian Aid Agency. I am delighted to inform you all that for this donation, A total of 730,000 doses arrived Nigeria on 30th May 2023 and the total of 850,000 arrived on the 14th of June 2023 to make a total of 1,580,000 doses of vaccines. All these donations are to improve the healthcare system and increase immunization coverage for every child in Nigeria to grow up safe and healthy is improved by this donation.

Distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, we want to sincerely thank everyone who helped make this donation possible, both individuals, agencies, Institutions and organizations. We want to thank the Ministry of Health, NPHCDA, NAFDAC and all their staff of these organizations. We are currently here today because of your consistent and committed work. I also want to recognize the important cooperation between our countries, which goes beyond this donation and includes several fields of shared interest.

We are transferring these pentavalent vaccines with the utmost faith and confidence in Nigeria’s capability to distribute and administer them effectively. We have complete confidence in your passion, knowledge, and dedication to preserving the health of your people.
May the donation of these pentavalent vaccines deepen the ties that unite our countries and act as a spur to more global health cooperation. Together, we can create a world where everyone is healthier, safer, more resilient and happier.
