National Disaster Mitigation Agency says earthquake strikes off southern coast of East Java province, with no injuries or property

ISTANBUL

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake shook Indonesia on Tuesday, according to the country’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).

The BNPB said in a statement that the earthquake struck off the southern coast of East Java province and was felt strongly in the Java town of Jember and the Kuta area on the resort island of Bali.

So far, no injuries or property damage have been reported.

The tremors were felt around 1:07 p.m. local time (0607GMT).

The earthquake was measured at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), with the epicenter around 223 kilometers (about 139 miles) south of Jember.

Last month, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Southeast nation, killing 321 people and damaging 62,000 homes in the western Java district of Cianjur.
