Amid crackdown on the #FreeNnamdiKanu protesters seeking the release of IPOB chief Nnamdi Kanu, police have arrested his lawyer Aloy Ejimakor and other protesters in Abuja on Monday.

Mr Ejimakor disclosed his arrest in a social media post on Monday morning, shortly after police tear-gassed demonstrators.

“We’ve just been arrested. Myself, Prince Emanuel and others. We are at FCT COMMAND CID. Myself, Fine Boy and others. No 1 Zaria Street, Gariki 2, Abuja,” Mr Ejimakor said.

Confirming Mr Ejimakor’s arrest, Omoyele Sowore, an activist and publishers of Sahara Reporters, leading the protest, said, “The @PoliceNG team deployed to brutalize #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protesters arrested Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, and his lawyer, @AloyEjimakor, as well as innocent bystanders. They were beaten and taken to the FCT command. The police must release them immediately!”

Mr Kanu, has been in detention for over four years after the Nigerian government abducted him in Kenya and was moved to Nigeria.

Since then he has been on trial for treason.
