According to rights groups, executions surged in Iran by 75% in 2022
ISTANBUL
Iran on Thursday executed two people for killing a policeman in Isfahan province, south of the capital Tehran.
Judicial official Mesud Mesudifer said that the two men – Kaidi Neseb and Muhammedi Beram – were found guilty of killing policeman Ehsan Nasiri in the Lenjan district in Isfahan in November 2021.
He said the two men had a criminal record for theft and disruption of public order.
According to rights groups, executions surged in Iran by 75% in 2022.
IHR and the Paris-based Together Against the Death Penalty estimate that 582 executions were carried out in Iran in 2022, the highest in Iran since 2015, up from 333 in 2021.
