ISTANBUL

Iran’s foreign minister on Saturday warned that it would target US-linked energy facilities in the region if its own energy infrastructure is attacked.

“If Iranian facilities are targeted, our forces will target facilities of American companies in the region or companies in which the United States has shares,” the Tasnim News Agency quoted Abbas Araghchi as saying.

Iran would “definitely respond” to such attacks but would act “with caution so that densely populated areas are not targeted,” he added.

Regional tensions have flared since Israel and the US launched joint attacks on Iran on Feb. 28, killing more than 1,200 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran has retaliated with drone and missile strikes targeting Israel along with Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries, which it says are targeting “US military assets.”
