The brigands engaged the police and members of a vigilante group in a gun battle that lasted for over an hour.

Armed bandits have yet again struck some communities in Abuja on Tuesday morning and reportedly kidnapped four residents as they engaged security operatives in gun duel.

A police officer sustained gunshot wounds in an attempt to foil the abduction which occurred in Tungan-Maje, a suburb in Gwagwalada Area Council.

Daily Trust while citing a witness, reported that the brigands engaged the police and members of a vigilante group in a gun battle that lasted for over an hour.

Ibrahim Saidu, was cited in the report, saying that the gun-wielding men first carried out attack in Anguwar Samu, Tungan-Maje neighbourhood and abducted two persons.

“The entire residents of Anguwar Samu were gripped with fear because of the gunshots but unfortunately, they succeeded in abducting two people,” Mr Saidu said.

The witness disclosed that the brigands launched another attack in New Poultry axis of the community where two persons were abducted shortly after they overpowered the police.

It was gathered that the injured operatives are receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital as at the time of filing in this report.

FCT police command spokeswoman, Mariam Yusuf did not respond Peoples Gazette’s multiple calls and messages when contacted Tuesday afternoon for comments.

The onslaught of banditry activities in the communities across the outskirt of the FCT have left many residents in fear as the brigands continue to carry out attacks in brazen fashion.

The Gazette had reported several kidnapping activities in Pegi, Kwali, Kuje and Gwagwalada communities that occurred with little or no resistance from relevant security operatives.
