The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has fixed Saturday, August 14, 2021 as the new date for the rescheduled local government elections.

Ibrahim Sambo, acting Chairman of the Commission, made the announcement after a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday at the commission’s office.

He declared, “The Commission has fixed Saturday 14th August, 2021 as the local government council election day – between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.”

He explained that the resolutions of the meeting of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission held on the 1st June, 2021 informed the decision for the postponement.

He further explained that there shall be no extension of time for any political party to submit the list of its candidates for the upcoming election.

The acting chairman noted that results of all political parties’ primary elections stand as submitted.

He observed that substitution of candidates is only applicable on the list submitted earlier by the political parties within the time frame of 15 days before election, in line with Section 30, sub-1, Law No. 2 of the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission.

Recall that the election of chairmen/councillors in all the 23 local government areas of Kaduna state was earlier billed for Saturday, June 5, 2021 but was postponed due to non arrival of imported items meant for the conduct of the polls.
