The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, has called on political leaders to prioritise the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.

In his homily on Sunday at the Church of Annunciation, Arab Road, Kubwa, Mr Kaigama emphasised the importance of ensuring access to necessities such as water, light, education, healthcare, food and shelter.

The archbishop also stressed the need for security while highlighting the plight of those terrorised by religious bigots, terrorists and kidnappers.

He urged leaders to fight poverty, diseases and immorality and criticised the focus on war and other issues over the rights of the poor and vulnerable.

The cleric called on the international community to confront leaders who govern poorly and pressurise them to address pressing issues.

Mr Kaigama also urged the international community to address poverty and injustice ignored by leaders who govern poorly.
