The Kano government and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have unveiled a report on children’s rights and well-being.

The Kano government and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have unveiled a report on children’s rights and well-being.

Unveiling the report, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Planning and Budget, Auwal Sanda, said the report was designed to

inform policy dialogue, partnerships and interventions to improve the lives of children and their families.

The report analyses the country’s situation concerning children’s rights and critical issues affecting their realisation.

”Children, as leaders of tomorrow, must be given enabling environment to survive, develop and reach their full potentials. The SitAn will provide the baseline for government and partners to improve existing policies, programmes and aimed at ensuring adequate protection and improved well-being of the children,” he said.

Mr Sanda thanked UNICEF for supporting Kano in conducting the analysis to guide the government and partners in protecting children’s rights.

“The relationship between UNICEF and the Kano state government has been very cordial and strong because UNICEF has supported us for long. We are going to give you all the necessary support to succeed,” he said.

Rahama Farah, chief of the UNICEF field office in Kano, said the study found that issues affecting children in the state included a high level of child poverty.

Others were the inadequate provision of public budget and delay in cash backing in providing key social services to children.
