The United States Government has decried the continuous mindless killings of Christians by killer herdsmen in Plateau State unrelentingly taking place under the watch of President Bola Tinubu.

The U.S. Department of State expressed its dissatisfaction about the killings in the state in its ‘2023 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: Nigeria,’ published on its website on Tuesday.

The U.S. government cited numerous reports of deliberate killings or deaths resulting from attacks by violent extremists.

It said, “In October, suspected Boko Haram militants shot at villagers and set off a land mine in Yobe State, killing at least 40 individuals. On December 23 and 24, unknown gunmen attacked 17 villages in Plateau State and killed at least 150 individuals. Local leaders blamed herders for the attack.’’

The report attributed the attacks to religious or ethnic motivations which resulted in significant deaths outside of violent extremist organisation attacks.
