Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, has called on Muslims to embrace peaceful coexistence in line with the values of Ramadan as they celebrate eid-el-fitr.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, Mr Idahosa commended the dedication of Muslims to fasting, prayer, and charity, stressing the importance of the virtues in fostering unity and social harmony.

He said, “The holy month of Ramadan teaches us sacrifice, self-discipline, and love for one another. I urge all Muslim faithful to carry these virtues beyond Ramadan and contribute to the peace and progress of Edo State.’’

Reaffirming the commitment of the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration to good governance, Mr Idahosa expressed optimism that Edo and Nigeria as a whole would experience positive change, especially with the prayers offered during Ramadan.

Addressing the recent tragic killings of some hunters in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state, Mr Idahosa reassured residents that the government was taking decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He said, “We understand the concerns of our people, and I assure you that this matter will be thoroughly investigated. The state government is committed to ensuring that peace prevails among all ethnic and religious groups in Edo.’’

The deputy governor urged citizens to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities to security agencies, warning that the government would not tolerate any form of criminality.

“Edo State belongs to all, irrespective of background, but we will not condone acts that threaten peace and security.

“Anyone caught engaging in crime will face the full weight of the law,” he added.

Idahosa wished all Muslim faithful a joyous and peaceful eid-el-Fitr celebration, urging them to continue praying for the state’s progress.
