Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, on Saturday, commiserated with the Kwara State communities attacked by bandits, expressing hope that the tragedy will not recur.

“As Muslims, we believe in destiny, and it is our sincere hope that, by God’s grace, this act will not happen again,” said Mr Zulum, who is the chairman of the North-East Governors Forum.

The governor was among the government delegation to Kwara, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, following the killing of nearly 200 residents of the Nuku and Woro villages in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara.

“Our prayers are with you, and it is our sincere prayer that Almighty Allah will forgive those who have lost their lives and grant them Aljannah Firdaus,” Mr Zulum added.

On Tuesday, February 3, terrorists killed about 200 people in coordinated attacks on the Kwara communities. Some of the corpses have been found and buried, while some are still missing.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday said several massacres carried out in Kwara, Benue, and Katsina in recent days show Nigeria is descending into a killing field under President Bola Tinubu’s watch.

Amnesty International, in a statement on Wednesday, said, “Amnesty International strongly condemns the attacks on rural communities in Kwara and Katsina States on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, in which gunmen killed over 200 people. Many of those killed were shot at close range, and some were burnt alive.”
