Nigerian airline Air Peace has slammed a 100 per cent nationwide increase in ticket prices starting in November as Nigerians move closer to the Christmas period.
“Please be informed that effective 1st November 2024, Air Peace would be adding a 100% increase to their fares across all local routes,” the airline said in an email sent to its customers. “Kindly reach out to your dedicated consultant for further support.”
As of October 25, a flight ticket for a one-way trip from Lagos to Abuja was N143,000.
It is expected to jump to N286,000 when the company’s new airfares.
Air Peace did not immediately respond to Peoples Gazette’s request for comments on the price hike.
The latest announcement by Air Peace would come as a huge blow to Nigerians planning on travelling to different destinations across the country for various end-of-year festivals.
With insecurity ravaging many parts of the nation, many Nigerians resort to flying as their best option to travel around the country, but the constant hike in ticket prices will continue to make it unaffordable for average Nigerians to travel by air.
Earlier this month, President Bola Tinubu increased the petrol pump price to more than N1,000, forcing transporters to increase fares nationwide. This, coupled with the recent airfare hike, will make it expensive for Nigerians to travel by land or air.
