A54-year-old Lagos civil servant Akinlolu Ajayi has been arrested by the police in Lagos for attempting suicide on Third Mainland Bridge.

Mr Ajayi, who resided at No. 1, Owodunni Street, Oworonsoki, worked with the Lagos State Development and Property Corporate (LSDPC), Town Planning, Ilupeju.

In a statement on Sunday, the state police spokesperson, Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the incident happened on Wednesday at about 9.25 a.m.

He said the man was seen trying to jump into the lagoon at the UNILAG waterfront area.

Mr Ajisebutu said the anti-crime patrol team from Bariga Police Division on routine patrol of the area, rescued the man and took him into protective custody.

The spokesman said that the suspect had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and subsequent prosecution.

The state commissioner of police, Hakeem Odumosu, directed the man’s family to be contacted for necessary action, warning that “such condemnable act is not only morally wrong but is also criminal.”
