The police in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday arraigned a 55-year-old woman, Emem Ogun, before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a land buyer of N35 million.
Ogun, of Akala Express area, Ibadan, is facing a two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing, to which she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sikiru Opaleye, alleged that on May 10, 2024, at Akala Express area, Ibadan, the defendant, with intent to defraud obtained N35 million from one Mr Adebayo Orefuwa.
Mr Opaleye alleged that the defendant collected N35 million from the complainant under the pretext of selling a plot of land at Jogor Center area, Ibadan, but failed to deliver.
He further alleged that the defendant stole the N35 million and fraudulently converted it to her own use.

Defence Counsel, Oladotun Ayanlade, urged the court to grant the defendant bail on liberal terms.
The Chief Magistrate, Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Ogunkanmi ruled that one of the sureties must have a property, while the second must be a blood relative.
