Senators and House of Representatives members have harped on the need to continue to pray for peace in Nigeria.
The lawmakers, who came together for a Christmas carol organised by the Christian Legislators’ Fellowship in the National Assembly, prayed to God to guide all leaders in the right direction.
One of the lawmakers, Amos Magaji, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Health, said the birth of Jesus Christ brought about peace, joy and restoration.
He harped on the need for all Nigerians, regardless of religion, social standing, or ethnicity, to embrace peace and urged Christians to reflect on the significance of Christmas in their daily lives.
Ipalibo Banigo, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary), thanked the organising committee for putting the event together.
Ms Banigo, a former deputy governor of Rivers, said the Christmas season was a period of deep reflection.
The fellowship’s secretary, Bamidele Salami, admonished all Christians to remain steadfast in their commitment to serving God and humanity.
Mr Salami, chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee, prayed to God to keep Nigeria united to continue fostering national growth and development.
Vice-chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Anthony Yaro, called for a concerted effort to tackle the various challenges bedevilling the nation.
He said the Christmas period called for sober reflection on the need to foster unity and peace in the country.
