A 27-year-old Lotto agent, Daniel Ayomikun, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing his business partner’s N2.7 million.

Ayomikun, who resides on Aladelola Street, Ikosi-Ketu, is facing a charge of stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the allegation.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 22 at about 8 p.m. at Jakande Market, Ikosi-Ketu.

Mr Bassey alleged that the defendant borrowed N2.7 million from the complainant, Wasiu Oluwaseun, a fruit vendor, promising repayment on September 23, but failed to honour the agreement.

He said the complainant gave the defendant N1.7 million in cash and transferred N1 million to his Opay account.

Mr Bassey added that efforts by the complainant to recover his money were futile.

He said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, which prescribes three years’ imprisonment for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Daodu, granted Ayomikun bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case until October 17.
