The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Yusuf Tanko Sununu, has met with representatives of visually impaired persons who staged a peaceful protest in Lagos on Monday, demanding prioritisation of their welfare.

The protesters, who came from the Farmcraft Centre for the Blind, had blocked the roads leading to Lagos Airport, causing significant traffic congestion.

Scores of visually-impaired persons blocked airport roads in Lagos, demanding  that the Federal Government  should prioritise the welfare of people living with disability.

The protest disrupted activities at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and caused  gridlock on the roads. Travellers had to walk long distances to catch their flights.

On behalf of the protesters, a man, Dolor, said that many blind people had resorted to begging to survive.

Mr Dolor said the situation was not suitable.

He added that the school had been closed since 2023, stating that the visually impaired needed to draw the government’s attention to the situation.
