The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has urged Nigerians to prioritise health and well-being during the festive season, as travel, social gatherings, and celebrations increase significantly across the country.

Its director-general, Jide Idris, said the holiday season, while joyful and unifying, often brings health risks, including fatigue, dehydration, poor dietary choices, and reduced physical activity among many Nigerians nationwide during festivities.

He advised Nigerians to stay adequately hydrated, remain physically active, and ensure sufficient rest, despite busy schedules involving travel, long celebrations, and numerous social engagements nationwide throughout the festive period.

Mr Idris urged regular handwashing with soap and clean water and moderation in food and alcohol intake, warning that excessive consumption of sugary drinks and processed foods could weaken immunity and overall well-being during festivities.

He also emphasised mental well-being, encouraging Nigerians to pause, breathe, and recharge, noting that prioritising self-care during festivities supported healthier celebrations and a stronger return to daily activities in the year.
