The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a fuel truck and three other vehicles loaded with 246 bags of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, along the Suleja-Kaduna Road in Niger.

NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said in a statement on Sunday that the seizure, which took place on May 7, had a combined weight of 3,047 kilogrammes.

He said four suspects were arrested in connection with the drugs.

“Apart from the fuel truck (registration number ABJ 693 XU), three other vehicles were impounded: a Honda Odyssey bus (YAB 667 CZ), a Gulf bus (GWA 125 TQ) and a Honda Odyssey bus (ABJ 230 CN),” Mr Babafemi said.

He said operatives arrested two suspects in the Ijora area of Lagos on Thursday and recovered 109,914 pills of tramadol, swinol and nitrazepam from them.

Mr Babafemi said that on May 6, operatives recovered 52.5kg of skunk from two suspects during a stop-and-search operation in Gwantu, Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna.

“In Kwara, along the Bode Saadu–Jebba expressway, operatives arrested a suspect on Monday, May 5, with 45,400 pills of 225mg tramadol.

“In Bauchi State, officers patrolling the Bauchi–Gombe road on May 6, intercepted a Toyota Tundra jeep (RBC 111 DW).

“Inside were 526 blocks of skunk weighing 505kg with two suspects,” Mr Babafemi said.

He said NDLEA operatives also raided a hideout in Rijiyar Zaki, Kano State, and recovered 31 kegs containing 775 litres of codeine syrup and detained two.

“On May 6, NDLEA officers intercepted 1.1kg of Loud, a highly potent strain of cannabis, at a courier company in Lagos.

“The consignment had been concealed inside a pillow and originated from Thailand,” he said.

He said NDLEA chairman, Brig.- Gen. Buba Marwa(Rtd), praised officers from the Lagos, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kwara, and Niger State commands for their outstanding efforts in the week’s operations.

Mr Babafemi also commended all NDLEA commands nationwide for maintaining a balance between drug supply reduction and demand reduction strategies.
