The Arewa Pastors Non-Denominational Initiative for Peace has advised the clergy to stop prophesying doom for Nigeria.

Bishop John Richard, the National Chairman, spoke at a rally on Saturday in Abuja.

The body is a vanguard of pastors from the 19 Northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Richard said that in view of the prevailing security challenges, prayers will be offered for 40 days to seek God’s mercy and intervention.

He noted that if clerics foresee danger for the country, God wants them to do something about it.

“The country is almost catching fire, you should not be adding fuel”, NAN quoted him as saying.

The Bishop said helplessness and hopelessness could make many people die before their time.

He further cautioned the clergy to stop placing curses or uttering judgmental pronouncements on leaders.

Richard called for prayer for those in positions of authority to enable them to succeed in their mandate.
