Now is not the time to comment on the legality of the US actions on Venezuela, the Greek prime minister said Saturday in the wake of US strikes and US forces taking away the country’s president and first lady.

Saying that the “regime” of President Nicholas Maduro brought “unimaginable sufferings” to the Venezuelan people, Kyriakos Mitsotakis added: “The end of his regime offers new hope for the country. This is not the time to comment on the legality of the recent actions.”

According to Mitsotakis, the priority now should be ensuring that “a peaceful and speedy transition to an inclusive new government that enjoys full democratic legitimacy.”

He added that the country will coordinate on the issue with its partners in the EU and UN Security Council.

Mitsotakis’ remarks came after the US carried out a “large scale strike” on Venezuela, with Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores also “captured and flown out” of the country, later en route to New York City, where they will face trial, according to US President Donald Trump.
