The U.S. Consulate opened the Abeokuta ‘Window on America’, the 13th in southern Nigeria, on Friday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

According to Stephen Ibelli, Public Affairs Officer at the U.S. Consulate, the Abeokuta Window on America would help to develop bridges between Nigerians and Americans, boosting mutual understanding, collaboration, and partnership.

“The opening of the Window on America here in Abeokuta symbolizes the U.S. Mission’s desire to bring the United States closer to Nigerian audiences,” Mr Ibelli said.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by alumni of U.S. government exchange programmes, local education administrators, and community representatives.

Opened in over 150 locations around the world, the Window on America is formed through collaborations between the U.S. Mission and institutions in the host country.

The space would host cultural programmes, provide information on study opportunities in the U.S., and strengthen relationships with alumni of U.S. universities and exchange programmes.

Mr Ibelli urged students, teachers, businesses, scholars, journalists, civic organizations, government officials, and community leaders to utilize the center’s resources.

Ayodele Aderinwale, deputy chief coordinator of the Obasanjo library, said the “strategic collaboration” was aimed at bolstering cultural integration.
