Ohanaeze: Tinubu has done more for Ndigbo than any president since 1970

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for what it described as unprecedented infrastructural interventions in the South-East, stating that no Nigerian president since the end of the civil war in 1970 has done more for Ndigbo.

In a press statement issued on Sunday by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Deputy President General, the group singled out the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for praise, saying his performance had been exceptional and deeply beneficial to the South-East geopolitical zone.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo observes that the Tinubu administration, through the Ministry of Works under Senator David Umahi, has commenced and committed to completing major road infrastructure in the South-East that had been abandoned for decades,” the statement read.

The group noted that major projects like the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, and ongoing segments of the Second Niger Bridge are receiving significant attention, thanks to the renewed focus of the Tinubu government.

They also highlighted the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway as “national legacy projects” that cut across multiple regions, including the South-East, and would dramatically improve economic connectivity and ease of transportation.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo wishes to state unequivocally that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done more for Ndigbo in terms of road infrastructure than any Nigerian president since after the war in 1970,” the statement added.

On Umahi’s performance, the group remarked: “Umahi is among the top five ministers in Tinubu’s cabinet and has shown tremendous leadership, clarity of vision, and passion for delivery. His work is already being felt across the six geopolitical zones.”

The organisation also appealed to South-East political actors and youth groups to avoid distractions, particularly calls for 2027 presidential debates, and instead focus on supporting the federal government’s ongoing development efforts in the region.

“Ohanaeze strongly urges the Southeast to rally around this administration’s developmental push, especially as it addresses historical infrastructural neglect,” the statement concluded.
