Leaders and stakeholders of the Okigwe senatorial zone of Imo, on Monday, resolved to prioritise strategic engagements in their desire to produce the next governor in 2028.

At a meeting convened at the country home of businessman Tony Chukwu, in Umueze I, Ehime Mbano LGA, the people resolved to spare no efforts in their bid to produce Governor Hope Uzodimma’s successor.

Addressing the assembly, Mr Chukwu underscored the need for all the political stakeholders from the zone to remain steadfast and focused. According to him, the quest to produce the governor requires both strategy and faith.

He urged the zone to use the Lenten period to commit the project into God’s hands.

“Lent represents sacrifice and reflection. We must urge the Okigwe zone to commit the 2028 Governorship project into God’s hands,” Mr Chukwu said.

Former Governor Ikedi Ohakim praised Mr Chukwu’s steadfastness in championing the Okigwe cause.

Mr Ohakim called for “absolute unity among all sons and daughters of Okigwe zone” to ensure the success of the struggle.

“God remains faithful to His people. But we need sincere prayers and unity to secure the understanding and backing of the Owerri and Orlu Zones for 2028,” he said.

The secretary to the government of Imo, Cosmas Iwu, lauded Mr Uzodinmma for his exemplary leadership, infrastructure development and goodwill towards the Okigwe zone.

Mr Iwu expressed the hope that Mr Uzodimma would support Okigwe’s aspiration “as a matter of equity and fairness in the state”.

The lawmaker representing Okigwe North federal constituency, Miriam Onuoha, moved the motion for the adoption of the assembly’s resolutions.

Ms Onuoha emphasised the need to pursue their aspiration through strategic engagement and solidarity.
