NAIROBI

The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the Sudanese army’s military sites in Khartoum State of Sudan on Wednesday, according to local media.

The Sudan Tribune news portal said the Sudanese army intercepted 10 attack drones that targeted a military site in northern Omdurman, west of Khartoum state.

Locals reported powerful explosions before dawn, as smoke was seen rising from around the military area in Sirkab, north of Omdurman, following the drone strikes.

RSF drones also hit a military camp in the city of Bahri, north of the capital Khartoum, Sudan Tribune said.

No casualties were reported.

There was no immediate comment from the Sudanese army nor the rebel group.

In recent months, the RSF-held territory has shrunk rapidly across Sudan as the army expanded its military gains to include Khartoum, White Nile, and North Kordofan states.

Since mid-April 2023, clashes between Sudanese army forces and the RSF have killed more than 20,000 people and displaced some 15 million, according to UN and local authorities, while a study by American universities estimates the death toll at approximately 130,000.
