Police arrest 15 robbers, cultists in Ekiti

The suspects were said to have confessed during interrogation of being members of an armed robbery gang, illicit drug dealers and cultists.

The police in Ekiti have arrested 15 suspected armed robbers, cultists and drug dealers in their hideouts in Ado-Ekiti.

In a statement on Tuesday, Sunday Abutu, the command’s spokesperson, said the arrest was part of the ongoing effort of the police to rid the state of criminal elements.

“During the operation carried out by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 15 suspected drug dealers, armed robbers and cultists were arrested,” he said.

According to him, the suspects include Musa, Abdullahi Umar, 25, Shola Adeyemi, 43, Hawalu Ali, 45, Usman Amisu, 30, Haruna Usman, 20, Yanusa Abubakar, 25, Usman Lawali, 20, and Ajayi Opeyemi, 20.

Others are Toheeb Isa, 21, Ajiboye Michael, 19, Kayode Yinka, 20, Taiwo Michael, 20, Jimoh Zarheal, 19, and David Henry, 36.

Mr Abutu said operatives had on July 13, clamped down on a group of hoodlums in their hideout in Atikankan in Ado-Ekiti.

He said two locally made single barrel guns, two axes, two locally made pistols and some wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspects.

Mr Abutu said the suspects during an interrogation confessed to being members of an armed robbery gang, illicit drug dealers and cultists.

He said the suspects would be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation was concluded.
