Operatives of the Anambra State police command, on Saturday, arrested a suspected member of a criminal gang involved in robbery and rape in Orumba South Local Government Area.

Spokesperson for the command, Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement on Monday, said the 25-year-old suspect also robbed an elderly man while also raping his daughter who later died.

Mr Ikenga said, “In continuation of investigation on a reported Case of Conspiracy, Armed Robbery, Rape, attempted murder and murder, Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad in the early hours of 28th June 2025 arrested one Uchenna Uchegbu ‘M’ aged 25 years, a member of criminal gang terrorizing Orumba South Local Government Area.”

“The gang allegedly committed a heinous crime in Umucheke Village on June 2, 2025, including: – dispossessing a 68-years old man of his belongings after blindfolding and tying him up. The gang members allegedly raped the man’s 23-years old daughter,”

The command said during investigation, “the suspect confessed being involved in a similar incident on May 23, 2025, where a 52-years old woman was robbed and raped. The victim allegedly lost consciousness, was hospitalised, and later confirmed dead by a doctor.”

Mr Ikenga said that operatives are still utilising the information from the suspect to intensify efforts in dismantling the criminal network in the area.
